esctoday.com has learnt that Italy will not be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Although RAI did enter negotiations with the EBU for a possible return, they ended without Italian broadcaster, RAI, reaching a sucessful conclusion. The news comes from the head of OGAE Italy in an email to esctoday.com.

In an email to the Head of Communications at esctoday.com, "From the sources we have inside RAI, there will be no Italy at Eurovision Song Contest 2007 as RAI refused once again to take part in the competition. Maybe see you in 2008".

Despite calls from the majority of fans that make-up the Eurovision Song Contest community, pressure from an petition on the internet and ongoing negotiations between RAI and the EBU, it appears that a block was put on Italy's re-entry from inside the broadcaster.
