One week after confirming to esctoday.com its participation, Latvian Broadcaster, LTV, has announced today their song selection process. They intend to keep the same format as the previous years with the same slogan Stand up Europe.

Submissions have opened today and will close on 20 November. 24 songs will be selected to compete in 2 semi finals on 18 January 2014 and 19 January in Riga. The 6 most popular songs from each semifinal will then compete in the finale on 1 February 2014 in Ventspils. The 3 songs with the biggest number of votes will make it to the super finale with the winner representing Latvia in Copenhagen next May.

The 24 selected songs will be revealed during a press conference on 2 December 2013. Dziesma 2014 is using the same vote casting format as the Eurovision Song Contest, a jury and a televote.

The only difference with the other years is that the composers of any submitted songs have to be Latvian.

Latvia was represented by the band PeR last May and finished last of the second semifinal and has failed to qualify to the finale since 2008. However, Latvia has won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2002 with Marie N and her hit I Wanna.

PeR, Here we go.

Marie N, I Wanna.

I remember watching my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, aged 7. I have been a true fan since then.
