Danish Melodi Grand Prix 2014 will be held in Odense on the island of Fyn.

The island, which is promoted as the fairy-tale place of Hans Christian Andersen, hosted an official handover reception on Tuesday to mark the city’s success in the battle to host MGP. The Mayor, Anker Boye said that he has great confidence that  Arena Fyn is in the best position to handle, properly and professionally, the National Final.

We will provide the festive setting for the Danish Melodi Grand Prix promises the Mayor.

The reception, offered a party with finger food and music from two Eurovision winners, the Olsen Brothers, Jørgen and Niels from 2000 and Emmelie de Forest, who brought the trophy back home in May of this year.

DR, the Danish public broadcaster, went into the streets of Odense city centre, to gauge the public’s reactions to the fact of hosting MGP. These were some of the reactions

  • – I think it’s fine that it is being held on Fyn, it’s nice to get around different places, and that not everything is happening in Herning or Copenhagen.
  • – I think it’s great that we get something like this. It will get a little more life in the city perhaps, like over in Copenhagen.
