Per Zachariassen, the Executive Producer of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will stir things up and reform the show.
In an interview with DR, the Danish host broadcaster, he says I am not afraid to take chances. That’s the way of my life. I am simply not nervous about letting go, either in life or on television. He will be working in cooperation with the Head of Show, Jan Lagermand Lundme.
His vision is to go back to substance and he hopes that he can breathe some life into the contest. He thinks that things have stalled in recent years.
The program has been around for nearly 60 years and it is old ,and is characterised by the fact that it has not really moved with the times. I hope that I can get to alter the concept. There are many forces pulling in the other direction, so I’m here to change that.
Per Zachariassen‘s true vision for the show is for it to return to its roots.
We should not change the basic idea. That I have the greatest respect for. The problem is with respect around the core of the programme, so my vision is to go back to substance.
He points out that the Eurovision Song Contest, both nationally and internationally, is a serious music competition and therefore it is sin that right now many consider it as a clown which everyone laughs fondly at.
I want that the show to have credibility and that you take it seriously. It’s super naive, of course, that we can change it in one show. But over time we may change it.
