HRT, the Croatian national broadcaster has announced today that Croatia will not participate at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest next year in Copenhagen.

Following in the footsteps of many countries hit by the European financial crisis, HRT, the Croatian broadcaster has decided not to take part in the next Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Copenhagen in May 2014.

Croatia’s poor results at the Eurovision Song Contest in recent have also influenced the broadcaster to take a year’s break from the competition. Croatia has not qualified to the Eurovision final since 2009, hence staying out of the grand final in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Depending on the public interest, there might be a broadcast of the contest’s final, the broadcaster said.

Croatia debuted at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest with Put’s Don’t ever cry. The country is yet to win the contest and their best placing at Europe’s favourite television show was in 1996 with Majda Blagdan and in 1999 with Doris Dragovic, achieving a 4th placing.
