Frida, Agnetha & Madonna collaborating!

UK newspaper the Sun reports that Anna-Frid Lyngstadt and Agnetha Faltskog, who shared lead vocals on most of ABBA's mega-hits, have committed to work with Madonna on her follow-up to the worldwide smash Confessions on a dance floor. Madonna's first single from that album, Hung Up was only the second authorized sampling of an ABBA track (it sampledGimme! Gimme! Gimme!).

Madonna' also approached the ABBA men (Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus) about joining in. They declined, but "gave their blessing" to the work. Apparently all four members of ABBA were thrilled with Hung Up, which hit #1 in nearly a dozen countries, as well as the top 10 in the US.

Of course, ABBA won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton (UK) with Waterloo. In 2005 viewers across Europe chose Waterloo as the greatest ESC song of all time during the Congratulations special. No act has managed to launch as successful an international career after winning the ESC as ABBA managed.
