Switzerland: SRF confirms participation in 2014

SRF, the Swiss  national broadcaster has informed and confirmed to esctoday.com that Switzerland will participate at the forthcoming 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark. The method and mechanism to select the 2014 Swiss entry will be yet again via a national final like in previous years.

SRF has released a communique today stating that the 2014 Swiss national final will be held on February 1st 2014 in Kreuzlingen. The broadcaster has called for composers and artists wishing to submit an entry for Denmark can do so from September 30- October 28.  The 2014 Swiss entry will be picked via a 50/50 televoting-jury deliberation.

Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Albania, Iceland, Ireland, San Marino, Georgia and Belgium have all confirmed their participation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest next year in Denmark.  Whilst Belarus has said they will most likely be in the competition next year.

Takasa  represented Switzerland at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with You and Me.  Takasa failed to qualify to the grand final in Malmo.

Switzerland is one of the founder members of the Eurovision Song Contest, having hosted the very first edition in Lugano in 1956 and winning the very first grand prix with Lys Assia‘s Refrain on home ground. The Helvetic nation has won the event 2 times in 1956 with Lys Assia and in 1988 with Celine Dion’s Ne partez pas sans moi.
