Bonnie Tyler has scooped two awards in this year’s ESC Radio Awards, joined by Italy’s Marco Mengoni in the popular online radio poll.
ESC Radio runs the awards annually, inviting listeners to vote not just in Europe, but across their worldwide listenership including the Americas and Australia. This year, for the first time, the UK came out on top with listeners. Until now, only Blue had come close to winning one of the station’s awards, managing a sixth place for I Can in 2011. However, the wait was worth it for British fans, as Bonnie won not just one, but two of the listeners’ categories: Best Song and Best Female Artist. Marco Mengoni topped the popular vote for Best Male Artist, taking the trophy for Italy.
Bonnie just pipped Margaret Berger’s I Feed You My Love to the post to win Best Song, with Marco in a close third with L’essenziale and Zlata’s Gravity for Ukraine just a hair’s breadth behind in fourth. In the Best Female Artist, Bonnie saw off Zlata in second place, and the Netherlands’ Anouk in third.
Marco, in the competition for Best Male Artist, beat off competition from Iceland’s Eyþór and Azerbaijan’s Farid, in second and third place respectively.
Finally, the Best Group category was won overwhelmingly by Greece’s Koza Mostra feat. Agathon Iakovidis, polling over 20% of all votes. Montenegro’s Who See and Switzerland’s Takasa came close, but not close enough, in second and third place.
