Denmark 2014: Horsens prison determined to host Eurovision

Horsens and its prison are all set to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. After Aalborg’s withdrawal yesterday from the 2014 Eurovision host city race, Horsens seems to be determined to host the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest and is set to officially submit an application.

Imagine the Eurovision Song Contest taking place behind bars in a prison! Horsens Prison has already experienced hosting the Danish Eurovision national final Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. TV 2 Jutland reports that the city is already ready with an official application to bid for the great musical event.

We  will deliver on time, and we are committed to our idea and that think it is the best of all-  Frank Panduro, manager of the prison in Horsens has expressed regarding Horsens’ bid to host the 2014 ESC.

Think outside the box, DR

It’s just the old state prison, which one plans a framework for the world’s biggest music competitionAccording  to Mr. Panduro-DR been visiting the city and inspected the prison, which today serves as venue and cultural center.

I hope that DR and EBU will think outside the box. The error the last ten years has been that there has not been a damn difference in the host cities and arenas. But that will change if Horsens Prison wins the bid ! Mr. Frank Panduro went on to tell  TV2 East Jutland.

Cells commentary positions

He concedes that the prison can’t  meet the requirements of 50 commentary positions with air conditioning – On the other hand, we have 50 cells that previously housed famous Danish prisoners- Panduro goes on to metion.

What about Fredericia?

The Mayor of Fredericia Mr. Kenny Bruun Olsen when asked about his city’s bid to host ESC 2014 answered : We are also interested to get the show to town, but we haven’t yet decided whether to submit an application.

The story so far…….

There are 4 cities currently who have shown interest to bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year. DR, the Danish national broadcaster has announced on its official website that no decision has been made  regarding the host city and hence no negotiations have taken place yet.

We are in a dialogue phase, not at the negotiating stage yet.And out of respect for the various candidates we are working on it confidentially- Pernille Gaardbo, the executive producer for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest has commented regarding the selection of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest host city.

The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 13,15, 17 May in Denmark.  DR has until next fall to select and announce the host city.
