Emmelie De Forrest, the 2013 Danish Eurovision winner has entered the UK’s Top 40 Singles Charts at #15 this week with her winning entry Only teardrops.
It does seem that Scandinavian Eurovision winning entries tend to have a massive success in the European charts. Emmelie is now following the footsteps of Alexander Rybak ( Norway 2009) and Loreen ( Sweden 2012) who have both enjoyed fame and glory throughout Europe with their respective Eurovision winning entries. Only teardrops has also entered the Australian charts, thus showcasing the popularity of both the Eurovision Song Contest and the Danish entry in Australia.
We should also note that former Eurovision winners have entered the UK charts but have not enjoyed much success: Finland’s Lordi only achieved #25 in the UK, German 2010 Eurovision winner Lena had to settle for #30, eventhough her entry Satellite was a massive hit in Europe.
We shouldn’t forget that the 2000 Danish Eurovision winners The Olsen Brothers didn’t even enter the UK single charts, despite their entry going to become a massive hit all over the European continent.
