By tomorrow, Swedish broadcaster SVT will have received and registered all of the submissions for Melodifestivalen 2007, and amongst them somewhere will be the Swedish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki.

This means that by tomorrow, fans and TV chiefs will be able to compare the amount of artist interest between this year and last, when there were just over 3,000 entries in all. Although by SVT's deadline on Tuesday only 400 entries were reported by the station, a mass of around 2,500 late submissions was predicted to arrive on Wednesday, true to last year's form.

Next week begins the huge task of sifting through the entries and selecting the 32 songs fit for the Melodifestivalen 2007. Ten of those will make it through next year's semifinals to compete in the Melodifestivalen final in former Eurovision venue the Globen Arena, Stockholm, on March 10th 2007. Thanks to Carola's fifth place in Athens, the lucky one out of those 32 will enter the Eurovision Song Contest final in Helsinki directly.
