Yesterday, German private channel RTL screened a show called Die 10 größten Musikskandale (The ten biggest music scandals). The Internet users were able too chose among a number of qualified entries. As expected, Eurovision Song Contest related scandals could be found in the Top 10.
Russian duo t.A.T.u., who represented Russia in the 2003 Contest, reached fifth position. At the beginning of their career, their provocative shows were already regarded as scandalous when the scandal was made perfect; Their lesbian image turned out to be fake when one of the girls gave birth to a child.
Gracia, the German representative in Kyiv in 2005, came third. Her entry Run & hide was the first single ever to be banned from the German hitlists because of chart manipulation. Her producer and songwriter Davis Brandes bought 2000 CDs to get a higher position. The newspaper Bild tried to avert her participation but wasn't succesful.
'Winner' of the evening was Serge Gainsbourg, who also wrote and composed some Eurovision Song Contest entries (among others the winning song of 1965, Poupée de cire, poupée de son), whose song Je t'aime, sung by his wife Jane Birkin. Back in 1969, the obvious groaning in the song was a big scandal.
Among the qualified scandals, Corinna May's victory in the German final 1999 could be found. She won the selection with a song which was already recorded before with different lyrics which caused her disqualification.
In Riga, t.A.T.u. came third with the song Ne ver, ne bojsia. Gracia finished 24th (last) in Kyiv. Corinna May sang for Germany in 2002 and reached 21st position with I can't live without music.
