This Sunday, the German country band Texas Lightning will board their plane to Athens – with a Number One hit under their belt. Just one week ahead of the Eurovision final, 'No no never' hit the top spot of the German singles charts.
It is quite unusual for German Eurovision entrys to reach the top position in their country's singles charts. In 51 years of Eurovision history, only five artists managed to reach that goal: Conny Froboess in 1962, Dschinghis Khan in 1979, Nicole in 1982, Max Mutzke in 2004 and now Texas Lightning. No no never entered the German charts eight weeks ago on #35 and then went top ten. Now they managed to outsell competitors like German Pop Idols winners Tobias Regner and Mike Leon Grosch.
In Athens, Texas Lightning are to play on two occasions: on Tuesday, May 16, they will join Daz Sampson, Virginie Pouchain and Las Ketchup on the combined Big Four Partyat the Euroclub. Two days later, accredited fans have the chance to see them at a reception atthe German embassy.
