Junior: 'Commercial channels to take part'

The Nordic countries might still participate in the fourth Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is negotiating with (semi-) commercial broadcasters to take over public broadcaster's task. Belgovision.com reported that.

After the withdrawal of Denmark (DR), Norway (NRK) and Sweden (SVT), EBU started searching for other partners in the Nordic countries, Belgian newspaper De Standaard writes.

Just like TF1 in France and ITV in the United Kingdom, some Scandinavian commercial broadcasters are member of the EBU. The negotiations with these broadcasters “evolve in a very good way”, Steve De Coninck says. He's the chairman of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest reference group. No names are mentioned in the newspaper article. However, the members list on the EBU site contains TV2 in both Norway and Denmark and TV4 in Sweden. The Danish broadcaster TV2 told to esconnet.dk that they understand DR's point of view and that they won't take over their job.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest representative of the United Kingdom isn't selected by public broadcaster BBC, but by broadcaster ITV.
