Belgium and the Eurovision Song Contest
Belgium is a special country at the Eurovision Song Contest. One year, the country is being represented by a participant chosen by French language broadcaster RTBF, the other year it's the Flemish broadcaster VRT who's responsible for appointing a participant. Katrien Verbeeck (25), better known as Kate Ryan, will represent Belgium at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest after winning the Flemish selection Eurosong 2006. After four preselection heats, two semifinals and a final, she was chosen to go to Athens with Je t'adore.

In 2002, Kate Ryan had a big international hit with her version of Mylène Farmer's Désenchantée. With songs like Libertine and Scream for more, Kate Ryan continued her success, which now resulted into representing her country at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song is currently leading several polls and also leads esctoday.com's BigPoll for the semifinal of the contest, leaving Sweden and Bosnia & Herzegovina behind.
