Eddie Butler won the 2006 Israeli national final, the Kdam-Eurovision, that was held tonight in Jerusalem, and will represent Israel in the 51st Eurovision Song Contest's final in Athens.

Eddie Butler won the 2006 Kdam-Eurovision that was held tonight in the IBA's studios in Jerusalem. He will now proceed to represent Israel at the 51st Eurovision Song Contest in Athens with the song Ze hazman (This is the time). Butler gained 99 points, 9 points more than the Diamondz in the second place. The winning song was composed by Eddie Butler himself. The lyrics were co-written by Eddite Butler, Osnat Zabag and Galit Burg. Burg was half the duo Gili & Galit, who represented Israel in 1989.

Eddie Butler (34) is no stranger to Eurovision, having been part of the group Eden which represented Israel on home group in 1999, coming a respectable fifth place with Happy birthday. After his victory Eddie chose to thank god. 'I know god loves me and I thank him for giving me the chance to represent Israel'. Eddie Butler is a member of a large religious African-American community residing in Israel. Butler is now going through a process of converting into the jewish religion.

Thanks to Shiri Maymon's fourth position in last year's Eurovision Song Contest, Eddie Butler is a direct qualifier to this year's final in Athens.
