After Spanish broadcaster TVE announced Las Ketchup as its 2006 Eurovision Song Contest entrants, earlier this week, fans from Spain and abroad started a hot discussion about the quality of Las Ketchup's entry for Athens. The most dedicated Spanish fans even set up a special protest forum on the web.
Opinion
“It's laidback, but in a very lifeless way”, one of our esctoday.com members wrote, reacting to last night's announcement. “This has been a massive disappointment”, a Spanish member writes. Others are more modest in their reactions; “Along with a fresh choreography and a new arrangement, who knows what it will do in Athens”, someone writes, showing the other side of the medal. And what about the members of escforum.com? “Spain: zero points”, a majority votes in a poll.
The Spanish newspaper El Mundo quoted the president of the Madrid Press Association, González Urbaneja, saying: “Maybe there isn't a more corrupt place in Spain than RTVE”, though admitting not to have proof to support this rather serious allegation. Although Urbaneja's statement is in no way mentioning the selection of Las Kethup, a group of disappointed fans uses this statement to support their 'campaign' against the Spanish public broadcaster. TVE decided not to comment the statement…
Positive notes as well!
Supporting independent reports, it would be unfair to mention the negative side of this discussion only. As in every discussion, there is also a positive remark to make! The fact that Las Ketchup, as one of the bigger names the Spanish music scene exported over the past years, represents Spain, gets quite some support from the foreign media! In several European countries, media paid attention to the new challenge of the Las Ketchup sisters.
Most likely… to be continued!
