Through one of the TV advertisements about the Monday evening programme España Directo, TVE announced the name of the fourth short-listed artist to represent Spain at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. Along with Azúcar Moreno, David Civera and Las Ketchup, Chenoa joins the list of hopefuls, out of which an internal committee will pick the Spanish representative for this year's contest.
Monday at 18:00 CET in the TV programme España Directo on TVE 1 is the scheduled date to announce the name of the singer who will sing for Spain. It is also very likely that the song is first played.
Born Laura Corradini 30 years ago in Argentina, her parents moved to Majorca when she was only 8 years old. Chenoa leaped to fame in 2001 when she entered the largely popular Spanish talent show series Operación Triunfo where she came fourth. In 2002 she was one of the five contestants from the same talent show programme singing backing vocals for Rosa on Europe's living a celebration. Also in 2002, she won Eurobest, a contest among talent show participants from all over Europe. Chenoa is one of today's top Spanish female singers and one of the most applauded acts who the Spanish fans would like to see represent their country at Eurovision. As a solo artist, Chenoa has four albums under her belt; her self-title debut album and Soy mujer reached the top of the Spanish album chart in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Both albums received multi-platinum certifications for moving over 100,000 units each.
Routines, the first single off her fourth album Nada es igual, which was released in November of last year, knocked Madonna's Hung up off the No. 1 spot of the Spanish singles chart in January.
With Chenoa, the names of the four hopefuls to sing for Spain are finally made public by TVE. The Extremaduran sisters Toñi and Encarna Salazar, Azúcar Moreno, who finished fifth at the Zagreb Eurovision Song Contest back in 1990, 27-year-old Teruel-born David Civera, who came sixth five years ago in Copenhagen and the sisterly trio Las Ketchup from Cordova who sold over 7 million copies of their world-wide mega smash The ketchup song are the three other short-listed acts.
