Tonight, the first five entries for Eirodziesma 2006 have been selected. These five entries will compete during the final on 11th March, when Latvia will select its 2006 Eurovision Song Contest representative.
Ten songs competed for the chance to enter the final competition of Eirodziesma 2006, but only five of them will be performed again in the final.

The show was a live broadcast from Latvian Television (LTV) studio where the hosts commented the performances, but the song videos had been recorded in the previous week. After all the semifinal videos were played, 10 minutes were devoted for the voting process. Televoting determined three of the finalists, the jury picked two favourites. As the jury and the televoters had the same top-three, the experts added two of their other favourites to the finalists' list .
The complete list of Eirodziesma 2006 finalists will be known on 11th February when the second semifinal takes place.
