Family rivalry at Dora?

It is not unlikely that there will be some tension at this year's Dora, the Croatian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. Dora 2006 takes place from 3rd to 5th March in Opatija.

First of all, Đorđe Novković is the writer of the song Oči od safira by Danijela, while his son Boris, last year's Croatian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, is the composer of the song Moja tikla by Severina. Also, Danijela's fiancée Petar Grao is taking part with the song Nita mi ne znači (Ka' ti).

Petar Grao was runner-up at Dora 1997 with his song Idi, and Boris and Severina have had a duet called Ko je kriv. Another interesting fact is that Đorđe was the composer of the first ever Dora winning song, Don't ever cry by Put back in 1993.

Danijela first represented Croatia in 1995 as the lead singer of Magazin, together with the opera singer Lidija Horvath. They finished sixth with the song, Nostalgija. Danijela took part again three years later as a solo artist after splitting with Magazin. Her 1998 entry Neka me ne svane, written by Petar Grao, came fifth.

Danijela came third at Dora 2005, her song Za tebe rođena being beaten by Boris Novković and her old group Magazin. Magazins singer at the time, Jelena Rozga, has also left the group, and is taking part at this year's Dora as a solo artist with the song Ne zovi me Marija. The group Magazin is also among the participants in Dora 2006.

Former Dora winners Vanna (2001), Emilija Kokić (Eurovision winner with Riva in 1989) and Doris (1986 and 1999) will be co-hosts for the show, together with Duko Ćurlić and Mirko Fodor. Emilija has experience at presenting after her appearance at Congratulations in Copenhagen last October.

Boris Novković finished 11th in Kyiv, which means that Croatia just missed qualifying directly for the 2006 final. Croatia will therefore take part in the Eurovision Song Contest semi final in Athens on 18th May.
