Yesterday, music portal letmeentertainyou.de wrote that Texas Lightning, the country band around TV comedian Olli Dittrich, is going to sing 'No no never' at the German national final on 9 March in Hamburg. Today, NDR confirmed this and also published a short interview with Texas Lightning. It became also public that all three contestants of the German final will be introduced in three televised portraits on NDR, starting from 28 February.
In the interview on eurovision.de, Texas Lightning's female singer Jane Comerford, who wrote 'No no never', told about the song: “I wanted to write a song with a message, which nevertheless should not come over as arrogant or corny. It should have speed, be entertaining and have a message. The song has optimism and zest, and at the same time this strange, beautiful melancholy.” Asked if the Eurovision Song Contest is followed by her Australian compratiots (she is from Down Under), she told: “Definitely! They think it is totally wicked, because it is so unbelievalby European. For an Australian, it is a bit like watching another planet. It's totally hip!”
In the meantime, Thomas Hermanns (pictured), who will host the German final, has given an interview to German TV magazine TV Spielfilm. Asked about the strengths and weaknesses of the German participants, he told: “Vicky Leandros is the Grande Dame of the Contest. She knows exactly how it works, this can't be stressed enough. And she would have a home match in Greece. Her weakness: I don't know if she would like to perform in a half-naked trick dress in front of exploding special effects. Those went down very well during the last years.”
“Thomas Anders is a total pro, who has seen everything on an international basis. From Modern Talking, he has a big fan base in Russia – and you can't win without the Eastern Bloc. His weakness: I'm not sure if he would would like to perform in a half-naked trick dress…”
“Texas Lightning: German humour has some potential internationally, remember Guildo Horn and Stefan Raab. Country from Germany certainly would be a positive surprise for Europe. The weak point: Olli Dittrich probably would even dress in a half-naked trick dress, but it would not suit him. He's the classical type – I tried to talk him into a Chanel costume for years.”
Asked if he could see himself participating in the German final, the confessed Eurovision devotee said: “As soon as it would be finally clear that it's all about the half-naked trick dress and not about the voice. My song would be: 'Let me heal the world with music and this dress'!”.
The German final will take place on 9 March from 20:15 CET and is aired on Germany's first channel ARD. The performer's specials can be watched on the third channel NDR as follows:
