'Corruption SMS voting at Belgian VRT'

Following the SMS scandal surrounding the election of Miss Belgium 2006, Flemish broadcaster VRT has been accused of corruption. Flemish and Dutch media reported that. “In contests like Eurosong, only one vote per spectator on a certain candidate counts”, VRT reacted on the Miss Belgium scandal while creating a new one.

For years, Flemish broadcaster VRT didn't inform the viewers that only one vote counted. The effort of all viewers who voted more than once, or spent a fortune on supporting their favourite artist, was thus in vain. “Corruption”, says Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, which discovered the scandal at VRT by accident, when asking them for a reaction on the case of Miss Belgium 2006, Virginie Claes.

This new case will most likely get a political continuation. Yesterday, VRT surprisingly came up with a statement in which it was clearly mentioned that only one vote per telephone, mobile phone or digital tv set will be accepted during Eurosong 2006.

We asked VRT for an official reaction. Tomorrow, the first semifinal of Eurosong 2006 takes place.
