At Saturday's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the Belgian royal family will be represented by Prince Laurent. The organising broadcasters VRT and RTBF had invited the royal family to be present at the Ethias Arena in Hasselt for the third edition of the contest. It's the second time a Eurovision Song Contest event is being organised in Belgium.
Not the king, nor the crown prince, but Prince Laurent, the youngest son of King Albert and Queen Paola will be present in the Ethias Arena of Hasselt to attend the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2005. Prince Laurent will be the only representative from the Belgian Royal family. His wife, Princess Claire, will not accompany her husband. She is pregnant and expects a twin.
In 1987, Albert and Paola, the current king and queen of Belgium, were present at the Eurovision Song Contest. At that time, they were still prince and princess.
