The Dutch commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest since 1987, Willem van Beusekom, announced to quit. He decided to step back from the commentator box after Kyiv, where the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest took place. The contest's 50th anniversary show in Copenhagen was his last Eurovision Song Contest event.

Van Beusekon, who is also president of one of the Dutch public broadcasters (NPS), said; “I had some fantastic years with great artists, composers and song writers and with different results. But sometimes it's good to step back”.

Dutch broadcaster NOS is currently finalising its national selection format for the Nationaal Songfestival 2006. According to unconfirmed rumours, three internally selected artists will sing three songs each. It's expected the format details will be announced within the upcoming two weeks.
