The ancient Phaistos disc will play an important role in the visual identity of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. The mysterious disc, often used as a symbol for the ancient Greek history and a beloved imitation souvenir for tourists, will feature as sub-logo for next year's contest.

Host broadcaster ERT also revealed more details about the 'house style' of next year's contest. “Inspired by the wind and the sea, the golden sunlight and the glow of the sand, the logo for the 51st Eurovision Song Contest is slowly taking shape”, can be read on ERT's re-designed Eurovision Song Contest website. Greece and its history were the resources of inspiration for the new sub-logo.

The sun, the water and the sand will all be present, while their colours will blend together, forming something unique. The Phaistos disc will also a prominent feature, as it will come alive, but viewed from a more contemporary perspective.

Designers are currently working on the finishing touch of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest visual identity, which will be revealed soon.
