Basic information

Performer: Andrius Pojavis
Song: Something
Language: English
Music: Andrius Pojavis
Lyrics: Andrius Pojavis

The song

This year’s Lithuanian entry starts is a rocky tune about love. The singer wants to tell something about love as it was on his mind so long.

I have to tell you something
It’s been on my mind so long
I’ve got to tell you this
It’s been on my mind way too long
I promised myself to tell
Instead I’m falling apart to see you here

If you don’t know I’m in love with you
When summertime falls It becomes untrue
Because of my shoes I’m wearing today
One is called Love the other is Pain

The performer

Andrius Pojavis began singing at a young age, and during high school he played in a band called No Hero. After graduating from high school, Pojavis moved to Vilnius where he graduated in History studies at Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences and played in a number of bands, including the Hetero, who won the EuroRock competition in 2006. In 2012, Pojavis began to record his debut album in Massive Arts studio in Milan, Italy. The first single Traukiniai was later that year, ranking within the top twenty of the Lithuanian Singles Chart, and its music video was aired on national television. Following this success, Pojavis released his debut album Aštuoni that received both commercial and critical acclaim in Lithuania.

The songwriter

Andrius Pojavis normally writes his own music. Pojavis used to live in Ireland and began to write solo material. He is currently spending time between Lithuania and Italy, where he lives with his wife and daughter.

The national selection

The Lithuanian final has been preceded by nine shows including heats and semi-finals. Seven acts qualified from the previous stages of the competition and in the final Andrius Pojavis won the right to represent Lithuania this year.

Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest

Lithuania took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 1994 and finished last with nil points on their debut. It would take until 1999 that the country returned to the competition and again with no great success. The only top ten placing to date came in 2006 when LT United finished sixth in the final. Last year managed to qualify to the final as Donny Montell got a third place in semi-final one but in the final ended in 14th place.

Statistics

This will be Lithuania’s fourteenth participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. It will be the sixth time that the country is being represented by a male solo performer but it will be the twelfth year in a row (and the eleventh in twelve times since the abolishment of the language rule) that the Lithuanian entry will be performed mainly in English.

Lithuanian vote in Eurovision

Throughout its history in the Eurovision Song Contest Lithuania gave its most points to Russia while neighbouring Latvia awarded the most points to Lithuania. However if the semi-final votes are taken into account, Ireland gave most points to the Baltic nation.
