585 songs were submitted for the Norwegian 2006 Eurovision Song Contest selection. Broadcaster NRK said that to escsweden.com.

To select the Norwegian representative for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, Norwegian broadcaster NRK invited song writers, composers and artists to contribute directly. For the 2006 selection however, NRK decided to organise an open competition again.

Most of the 585 entries are from Norway of course, but NRK also received songs from Sweden, the Netherlands and other countries, as foreign composers and song writers were allowed to submit their proposals. NRK however reserves the right to select the performer of international productions.

Melodi Grand Prix 2006 will take place in March and will feature 10 or 12 songs.

The 2005 edition of Melodi Grand Prix was won by Wig Wam. The Norwegian rockers finished 9th in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest final with the song In my dreams.
