Cyprus will select its 2006 Eurovision Song Contest entry in a public selection. Andros Pavlides, Director of Television Programmes of CyBC, said that in a television programme about the new television season. Anyone interested to represent Cyprus in Athens next year can send in a song, including foreign songwriters and composers.
Over the past months, media rumoured that CyBC negotiated with Anna Vissi, Evrydiki and Dimitris Korgialas to represent the island state in next year's Eurovision Song Contest. Pavlides denied these rumours.
An internal selection committee will select 10 songs out of the submitted entry. This jury will get specific instructions about the quality level, music, lyrics and performance.
CyBC could already confirm us that the deadline, scheduled in the first weeks of December, will be announced soon.
