The Maltasong Board, responsible for the Maltese selection for the Eurovision Song Contest has launched a new song contest entitled Opportunity 2. Winners of this song contest will automatically earn a place in the local finals, Malta Song for Europe to be held on 4th February 2006.

During a press conference held at the Tulip Vivaldi Hotel in St Julian's on 17th August, Ms. Grace Borg, chairperson of Maltasong Board, launched the new song contest entitled Opportunity 2. The song contest, produced together with Aceline Entertainment Ltd will be aired on the national broadcaster TVM's Saturday night show, Showtime with Aceline, starting on Saturday 8th October.

Opportunity 2 will lead to the Malta Song for Europe 2006. Applicants for this new song contest should be singers who have never reached the local Song for Europe before. Both the winner as well as the runner-up of Opportunity 2 will join the other 16 finalists of the Malta Song for Europe 2006, thus bringing the number up to 18 entries.

36 entries will compete in Opportunity 2 , which will be held between October and December 2005, 4 entries per programme. Entries will be judged by the public televoting. The top 10 songs will make it to the finals of Opportunity 2, to be held on 7th January 2006. Applications for Opportunity 2 are open and will close on 14th September 2005.

Malta has earned a place in the final of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Athens due to their second place at this year�s contest.
