“France is an important player at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest”, producer Ludo Porrez said to our colleagues of eurosong.be. Earlier, we wrote that France 3 is not interested to participate in Hasselt. Now it appears “France 4 is an option”.
In terms of broadcasters, all member organizations of the European Broadcasting Union can participate, as long as there is one broadcaster per country. “France is a big country and covers a big part of the budget for the contest”, Porrez said. “I rather look in terms of broadcasters, instead of countries”. Will we see France in Hasselt after all?
France has several public broadcasters, more or less operating seperately from eachother. France 3 earlier stated not to be interested in this year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, now it appears “France 4 is an option” according to Porrez. Earlier this year, France 4 transmitted the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. Confusing detail; France4 is not listed on the EBU member page.
If this means France will join the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after all? We will know on 22nd of August, when the EBU and the host broadcasters VRT and RTBF will announce the list of participants for this year's junior contest. However, we asked song contest supervisor Svante Stockselius for a comment.
