The Danish national selection for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Aalborg on 11th February. The Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, in which 10 songs and performers will compete, takes place at the Gigantium venue, which is part of Aalborg's conference and culture centre, the same venue as in 1992.
The MGP concept is one of the oldest television formats of DR (…) and by changing the host city from time to time, we would like to make it easier for everyone to see the show live or to participate”, Søren Therkelsen of DR said. In the Gigantum arena, there is place for 6,000 people. Tickets will go on sale on 10th October, which is also the deadline for submitting songs.
Songs can be performed in any language during the national final but at the Eurovision Song Contest they have to be performed in English. Songwriters, composers and artists have to fill in a participation form, which they can hand in together with their song at the reception of DR's head office in Copenhagen or one of its local offices. The deadline for submitting songs is 10th October, 12:00 CET.
Thanks to Jakob Sveistrup's 9th place in Kyiv, Denmark is directly qualified for the final of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, which takes place on 20th May.
