At the suggestion of Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha, Bulgaria joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005. In order to select the first Bulgarian entry, Bulgarian broadcaster BNT organised a national selection afflicted by scandals and accusations.
