The atmosphere around the Sports Palace in Kyiv was electric in the build up to the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest semifinal. Fans flocked to the venue, waving flags, wearing national dress and face paint to support their national entries.

Following the semifinal, fans of successful countries celebrated in the hall, in the lobbies and in the square outside the Sports palace. Glam ran out into the crowd during the brief photo opportunity on stage, Shiri Maimon stood beaming from ear to ear to wave and smile at hoards of Israeli fans. Dutch fans looked shell-shocked in disbelief that Glennis Grace is not in the final. Angelica Agurbash�s steamtrain unexpectedly fell off the tracks. Belarus flags were littering the floor throughout the arena.
