Russia: Dina Garipova selected to fly Russian flag in Malmö

C1, Channel One Russia, the Russian national broadcaster has informed esctoday.com that Dina Garipova will represent Russia at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö next May.

Dina Garipova shot to fame in Russia when she won the Russian version of the popular television show The Voice last December with 54% of the public vote.. The 2013 Russian representative was selected via an internal selection. She will sing What if in Malmö. The Russian entry has been produced by Gabriel Alearson and Joakim Björnberg from Sweden in collaboration with Russian musician  Leonid Gutkin.

Dina hails from the Russian region of Tatarstan and has been singing since the tender age of 6. She is a multi-talented artist who has experience in singing in Tatar, Russian, Italian, French and English.

Russia debuted at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin with Youdiph’s Vechni Stranik, and has graced the Eurovision stage 16 times. Since the year 2000 Russia has been in the final every year, and taken silver thrice (2000,2006 and 2o12) and bronze twice (2003, 2007) as well. Russia won Eurovision gold in 2008  when Dima Bilan triumphed in Belgrade with Believe and gave Russia the honour of hosting the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.
