On 6th March 2005 Son de Sol won the Spanish national final in which the Spanish representative for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest was selected. With the song Brujería, the three Andalusian sisters Lola, Esperanza and Sole will be taking part in the final in Kyiv. Esctoday.com had an interview with them…

Can you shortly introduce yourself and tell us when and how Son de Sol was created?

We are three sisters from Écija, raised in a family of pure flamenco singers and dancers dating back to four or five generations. We were brought up in the world of art and we came into contact with artists since we were kids.

Lola and Esperanza have got a degree in dance each and Sole, the youngest, a degree in journalism. We have always been working in the world of music, though we got our first record contract only six years ago. We have released two albums and Brujería will be the third.

Why did you decide to participate in the Spanish national Eurovision Song Contest selections?

It all happened by chance. There was only one day left when we found out about the deadline to submit the songs for the Spanish final. We submitted our tune practically unfinished and it was finally selected. One thing led to another ever since.

If TVE would still have used the Operacíon Triunfo format, would you have considered participating?

It would not have been possible. We would never have been selected, since we are three sisters. Only solo artists are accepted for Operación Triunfo, but not groups.
