Buranovskiye Babushki, the latest sensation of the Russian showbiz, are going to play an important role at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games to be hosted in the city of Sochi. The grandmothers from the village of Buranovo were selected to record a special song for the official soundtrack of the Olympics. Belarus’ Dimitry Koldun is also taking part in the project. 

The special album entitled Hits of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games contains ten songs recorded by several Russian artists. A special selection has been conducted by the radio stations and after listening to hundreds of songs submitted from all over the Russian Federation only ten songs were taken in consideration. The competition was designed to be open to all, so every Russian citizen older than 18 was able to compete.

The Buranovskiye Babushki recorded the song Olympic together with Nafa while Dimitry Koldun, the Belarusian entry in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, recorded the song Anthem of the Olympic Games together with Kirill Ukhanov.

Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi which is located on the Eastern shores of the Black Sea. The Olympiad will kick off on 7 February 2014.
