The stage design of this year’s Melodifestivalen has been revealed by the Swedish Television today. The new concept is characterized by large areas and LED lighting and will also include a catwalk which is particularly important for the artists’ numbers.

The designers are Viktor Brattström and Frida Arvidsson who began working at this year’s song contest scene during the summer. Right now, the stage construction is being tested at SVT’s workshop and when the tour will start, the whole scene building will be completed in two days and demolished in five hours for each location of the semifinals.

Daniela Ahlen, the assistant producer of this year’s Melodifestivalen, explains the importance of the catwalk for the show: It acts as an extension of the artistic presentation and appearance. Moreover, we will be able to get extra good camera angles [..] while the artist is on the catwalk.

The Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest will kick off on 2 February when the first heat of Melodifestivalen will take place in Karlskrona.
