Turkish composer Melih Kibar has died from cancer today. Kibar, who reached the age of 54, composed and conducted the Turkish entries to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and 1995.

Melih Kibar suffered from skin cancer, for which he had been treated for a long time. In February 2004 he already had a cardiac arrest. His funeral will take place on Saturday in Istanbul.

In Eurovision circles, Melih Kibar will be remembered as the composer and conductor of two Turkish Eurovision Song Contest entries. In 1986 he composed Halley. Performed by Klips ve Onlar it finished 9th in Bergen. In 1995, Kibar wrote Sev! for Arzu Ece, who reached the 16th place for Turkey in Dublin.

In 1987 Kibar's song Paydos became the runner-up in the Turkish national final. He also composed a song for both the 1989 and 1990 Turkish national final.
