The second Nordic national finals round will begin next week in Norway. The traditional Melodi Grand Prix or MGP will start on Saturday 19 January in Steinkjer, but there will first be a 30-minute presentation show on Wednesday.
In a break from the tradition from previous years, the names of the songs and the acts performing them won’t be announced until on the Wednesday of the same week. In a special show called MGP Direkte this year’s hosts Jenny Skavlan and Erik Solbakken (pictured above) will reveal the seven acts of the week, broadcast from the host city.
MGP Direkte will be on NRK1 at 20.15 for 30 minutes on Wednesday 16 January and then on every Wednesday until the Norwegian final on 9 February. Free tickets for the Wednesday shows available via the link here. The first heat from Steinkjer will air live on on NRK1 on Saturday 19 January at 19.55 CET.
It has not been confirmed yet whether there will be a CD release of the MGP entries this year, as has been the custom every year since 2004.
