For the first time in its history, Moldova selected a song for the Eurovision Song Contest. 15 songs appeared at the start of the show hosted by Aurica Vasilica and Valeriu Myrza. Zdob si Zdub won the national final and will represent Moldova at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Bunica bate toba.

50% professional jury and 50% televoting was used to select the Moldovan representative for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. Zdob si Zdub won the televoting and finished second in the vote of the professional jury that was won by Millenium.

Zdob si Zdub, which means “hit the drum”, was formed in 1994. Since then the line-up of the band has constantly been changing. Today the band exists of Roman Yagupov, Mihai Gincu, Sviatoslav Starus, Pugaci Anatol, Victor Dandes, Valeriu Mazilu and Cosparmac Victor.
