Geir Rönning for Finland!

Geir Rönning has won the Finnish national final tonight. With the song Why he will represent Finland at the semifinal of the 50th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, Ukraine. Kentala finished second, Jennie third.

After four semifinals in which televoting selected three songs to proceed to the final, twelve songs appeared at the start of tonight's Finnish national final. In a first round, regional juries gave their votes in Eurovision style. The six songs topping the ranking proceeded to the second voting round.

TV-viewers and radio listeners all over Finland then decided by SMS and televoting who will represent their country in Kiev

During the interval act, the audience saw performances by last years Finnish Eurovision Song Contest representative Jari Sillanpää and Laura who represented Finland in 2002. The show was hosted by Heikki Paasonen, Jaana Pelkonen and Antero Mertaranta.

Geir Rönnig has a fifteen year-long music career behind him. He was born in Norway but now lives in Finland. It was his third attempt in the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest selections. In the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix he once reached the second place. The composer of the song Why is Mika Toivanen. He also wrote last years Finnish Eurovision entry Takes 2 to tango.

Due to Finland's bad result at last year's Eurovision Song Contest, Geir Rönning will appear in the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest on 19th May in Kiev.
