When the deadline was passed and the last submission for the Melodifestivalen 2005 female joker competition had been counted this morning, no less than 115 entries had been submitted to the contest, organized by Swedish broadcaster SVT.

We're happy that we have succeded in engaging many female composers in Sweden. Especially when you take into consideration that they have only had 4 weeks to submit a song,” says Christer Björkman, producer of Melodifestivalen 2005.

SVT had announced the female joker competition at the end of October. Project leader Thomas Hall then announced that “this is a way to encourage Sweden's female composers and lyricist. They are underrepresented in the festival.

A jury will now judge the 115 submitted songs and on Thursday 29th December, the female composer(s) that have written the winning entry will be announced in the programme Melodifestivalen 2004 – dags att tänka på refrängen. Apart from the female joker, another 3 jokers will be invited later on.

The system with jokers in Melodifestivalen was introduced in 2004 to widen the range of entries, both with regard to musical style, artist wise, and composers and lyricists.
