The Lithuanian national broadcaster LRT has decided to keep the selection process close to last year's way of choosing their participant for the Eurovision Song Contest, meaning that several semifinals will be held in January 2005 with a grand final in the end of February.

The broadcaster has not decided about the total amount of the semifinals which also means they have not set a date for the final. It will be held in February, though, according to Jonas Vilimas from LRT. He also said that the first semifinal is set to take place on 8th January, others to follow on subsequent Fridays. Last year over 50 songs competed in 6 semifinals for the right to represent Lithuania at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Turkey.

Even though the performers have to be Lithuanian citizens, there are no restrictions for the songwriters' and composers' nationality. The entry itself can be in any language. As soon as a jury has selected the participating songs, a website with a possibility to listen to them will be launched. This is expected to happen in the end of December.

Lithuania will participate in the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev next year due to the poor result at this year's contest.
