Fialho Gouveia, aged 69, who presented Festival RTP da Canção in 1984, has died today at the Coimbra's University hospital. The presenter's death was due to an infection which affected his breathing system.

In 1969 Fialho co-hosted the Zip-Zip programme which was very successful among the audience since it gave democracy signs in a country ruled by a dictatorship.

After the 1974 revolution towards democracy in Portugal, he became the first journalist to present the TV news programme under the new democratic and free regime. Later on he hosted a popular quiz in the 70's called Cornélia and co-hosted the EBU programme Jeux Sans Frontières.

In addition to presenting the Portuguese final Festival RTP da Canção to select the eurovision representative in 1984, he was also the commentator for RTP at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest.
