Philipp Kirkorov, who represented Russia at the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Kolybelnya dlya vulcana, which ended up 17th, became subject of a national scandal. Kirkorov, the husband of Alla Pugacheva (Eurovision Song Contest 1997) insulted a journalist 'in front of the nation'. Vlad Yackovlev (OGAE Russia) reported that to esctoday.com.

Kirkorov is well-known in Russia from his Eurovision Song Contest participation in 1995 and covers of existing songs. During a press conference a few weeks ago, journalist Irina Aroyan asked him: “when will you start singing your own songs, and not remakes?” He suddenly became furious and used a wide scale of vulgar words to make clear how he thought about her. The video tape of this 'unusual event' was spread out through all major Russian television channels.

A group of journalists started a boycott against Kirkorov. One of the main Russian internet newspapers started to collect the signatures against him at kirkorov.net. “We may shut our eyes to the fact that Kirkorov has been deceiving his audience for many years, not singing live. We may shut our eyes on his worthless pathos made of decorations and dermatin suits. We may shut our eyes on the actions of his brutal securities, who attack the photographers of the main newspapers and his fans. But we can not shut our eyes on the fact that this man is bombarding a woman with abuse in sight of the whole country”, the main accusation says.
