Tomorrow, 5th July, Ruslana will be one of the 25 Ukrainians to carry the Olympic fire on its way around the world. Samsung Electronics Ukraine, the company that officially presents the 2004 Olympic Torch Relay in Ukraine selected local Eurovision Song Contest winner Ruslana as honorary torch carrier.
On its trip around the world, the Olympic torch arrives in Ukraine tomorrow. The Olympic Torch Relay will bring the Olympic fire to next year's Eurovision Song Contest city, Kiev. Among the 25 Ukrainian torch carriers: top wheelchair basketball player Sergey Smirnov, one of the first Ukrainian cosmonauts Yaroslav Pustovoy and… Ruslana Lyzchicko.
The 2004 Eurovision Song Contest winner was invited to be honorary torch carrier by Samsung Electronics Ukraine, organiser of the Olympic Torch Relay. According to them “Ruslana is a symbol of modern Ukrainian culture. In her songs one can hear the singing of the heart, Ukrainian soul, a good taste and a wonderful voice. By winning the Eurovision Song Contest, Ruslana has made a significant contribution to the creation of a positive image for Ukraine in Europe, which can be compared with the best achievements at the Olympics. One can never conquer Europe without a strength of mind or a willing for victory. These true Olympic spirit elements are typical for Ruslana's characteristics. That is why Samsung Electronics Company is delighted to give Ruslana the honorary role of torch carrier at the first Olympic Torch Relay in Ukraine.
