Drastic changes in Polish Junior selection

Polish broadcaster TVP has completely changed the selection procedure for the 2004 Junior Eurovision Song Contest after last year's disappointing result. Kasia Żurawik ended last and received only 3 points for her song Cos mnie nosi.

TVP came to the conclusion that a junior representative should not be chosen in the same way as one for the adult version of the Eurovision Song Contest. However TVP has not made an official announcement yet, Eurowizja.com reports that an open competition will not be organised.

Instead, 12 or 14 competitors will be invited to submit a song for the Polish preselections. They will be picked from finalists of a couple of Polish singing contests for children:

Festiwal Pieśni i Tańca of Konin
Wygraj Sukces of Tarnobrzeg
Harcerski Festiwal Kultury Młodzieży Szkolnej of Kielce

On 24th July RTP will announce a list finalists invited to compete in the final. However, the children will still have to decide whether they will be able to submit a song written and composed by themselves as the Junior Eurovision Song Contest rules require.

In September, a final will be held and broadcast on Polish channel TVP1. Unlike last year, the voting procedure will include a professional jury. Televoting might be used partially.
