What started back in 2003 as the Alternative Song Contest, became the ASF Awards! ASF means Artist Song Factory and is an organisation to encourage singers, songwriters and composers to promote themselves and their music.

ASF means Artist Song Factory and is an organisation to encourage singers, songwriters and composers to promote themselves and their music. The setup is practically identical to most of the national selections for the Eurovision Song Contest; a selection committee selected 8 songs out of more than 300 submissions, which exists partly about refused songs from the Dutch Nationaal Songfestival 2004. These 8 songs will be re-produced and the performers will be prepared for a live performance on Sunday, 2nd May, in the Escape Club in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

“We want to give people a second chance, which they often deserve as the quality of some songs is very high! Because the aim of our contest has nothing to do with the Eurovision Song Contest, we can focus on the commercial potential of a song”, organiser Jerry Wolff said.

During the show, which can be followed live through esctoday.com through a webstream, a jury will comment on the performances and will give points (1/3 of all votes). The present audience can also vote (also 1/3) and the online audience can already vote by email. The online vote also includes votes per SMS (only in The Netherlands).

The ASF Awards event again shows that the Eurovision Song Contest also inspires people to organise other events and contests. Among the fans of the Eurovision Song Contest, second chance contests are very popular. You can listen/watch the songs selected for the ASF Awards and vote for them on the special page here!
