The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has exceptionally granted Spain and Slovenia a special extension until December in order to decide on their respective participations at Eurovision 2027 in Burgas.

Yesterday the EBU published the official list of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 competing countries. A total of 36 countries are confirmed to compate at the ESC 2027 in Bulgaria. The number of competing nations in Burgas might rise if RTVE (Spain) and RTVSLO (Slovenia) decide to compete in the contest.

Both Slovenia and Spain withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna due to Israel’s participation.

EBU’S press release reads:

RTVE (Spain) and RTVSLO (Slovenia) have not yet decided whether they will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. In recognition of the complexity of the matter, the EBU has agreed to give both broadcasters until December to confirm.

The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at Arena Burgas in Burgas, Bulgaria on 11, 13 and 15 May.
