With 200 days remaining until the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final 2027, the BBC and BBC Studios have officially announced that the quest to find the United Kingdom’s representative artist and song is now in progress. The focus is firmly set on showcasing the very best of contemporary British music to a global audience.
The Search for UK’s Eurovision 2027 Act Begins
The BBC and BBC Studios have kicked off their search for the United Kingdom’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. This pivotal announcement comes with just 200 days to go until the Grand Final, highlighting a clear ambition to present exceptional contemporary British music to millions of viewers across Europe and beyond.
Leading this vital project is UK Eurovision Project Director, David May, who brings almost two decades of invaluable experience from the music industry. May is renowned for managing Sam Ryder, the UK’s runner-up in Eurovision 2022, a journey that included a UK Number 1 album, two Number 2 singles, and nominations for both BRIT and Emmy Awards. Collaborating with David May is Andrew Cartmell, who serves as Executive Producer and Head of Delegation for the UK. Together, they are working closely with colleagues from BBC Music, BBC Introducing, BBC Studios Entertainment Production, and BBC Entertainment Commissioning to identify the perfect song and act. This chosen representative will travel to the Arena Burgas in Bulgaria to proudly represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2027.
Leveraging the BBC’s extensive music expertise and unparalleled networks, the search extends across the UK’s leading music labels, publishers, and the thriving independent sector, which is a hotbed for exciting emerging talent. The team’s goal is to discover outstanding artists and songs that truly embody the creativity, diversity, and vibrancy of the contemporary UK music scene. They are specifically looking for acts with the talent, drive, and ambition to fly the flag for the United Kingdom on the world’s biggest music stage. The Eurovision Song Contest continues to be a cultural powerhouse with immense cross-generational appeal, attracting an estimated average audience of 160 million worldwide and a staggering 2.6 billion video views across major digital platforms.
David May on the UK’s Ambition
David May expressed his vision for the upcoming contest, stating:
“We intend to be represented by an outstanding current British act, backed up by the very best songwriting and production talent the UK music industry has to offer. We are looking for an act with tried and tested live performance experience and a song crafted in the UK by the very best home-grown talent. I saw first-hand in 2022 what one performance at Eurovision can do for an artist’s career. The opportunity is still very much there and it’s time the United Kingdom reached the top of the Eurovision scoreboard once again.”
The selected act and song are expected to be announced well in advance of the European Broadcasting Union’s official submission deadline in March 2027.
